Student & Parent Standards
Grapple House is not a daycare; it is a school of physical education. To build real confidence and skill in your child, we require strict adherence to these five pillars.
01
Behavior: Safety & Self-Control
The Standard
We build confidence, not bullies.
- Emotional Control: Jiu Jitsu is difficult. Students are expected to manage frustration without outbursts. Crying is allowed; quitting or throwing tantrums is not.
- Respecting Partners: Students must treat training partners with care. Any student who intentionally hurts another child or cannot follow safety commands will be removed from the mat immediately.
02
Methodology: Games-Based Learning
The Standard
We use "Ecological Dynamics"—we play games to solve problems.
- Active Learning: You will not see students standing in lines doing jumping jacks for 30 minutes. You will see them wrestling, playing tag-based games, and solving physical puzzles.
- Failure is Required: Your child will lose games. They will get stuck. Please do not "save" them. Overcoming this physical adversity is how they build genuine resilience.
03
Parents: The "Silent Sideline"
The Standard
We build problem-solvers, not remote-control robots.
- No Sideline Coaching: Parents are observers. Screaming instructions (e.g., "Push him!", "Get up!") disrupts the class and causes anxiety for the child. Let them figure it out.
- The Trust: Your job is to encourage their effort. Our job is to guide their technical development. If you cannot refrain from coaching, you will be asked to wait in the reception area.
04
Hygiene: Respect the Team
The Standard
A clean uniform is a sign of respect.
- Uniforms: Rashguards and spats must be washed after every single class. A dirty uniform is a health hazard to other children.
- Grooming: Fingernails and toenails must be trimmed short to prevent scratching partners.
- Sickness: If your child has a cough, fever, or skin rash, keep them home.
05
Operations: Punctuality
The Standard
Discipline starts with showing up on time.
- The 10-Minute Rule: Students who arrive more than 10 minutes late may be asked to observe rather than participate. Missing the warm-up games increases injury risk and disrupts the class focus.
- Pick-Up: Please arrive 5 minutes before class ends for pick-up. For safety, children are not allowed to wait outside the gym unattended.
